1.0 video FVF 2022 -DeepNight-Bathhouse Drummer - Rabbits - Poetry - 16mm - Non-Narrative A fantastical live-action film from Beijing ‘Bathroom Drummer’. 16mm & Super 8 Although we are very much in the digital age, there are still filmmakers using old analogue techniques developed in the early days of cinema. Pioneers such as Oskar Fischinger, Walter Ruttmann and Norman McLaren showed the way, developing experimental techniques in animation such as painting and scratching directly onto the film itself. Here is a selection of experimental films created on 16mm and Super 8 emulating that old-school style. POETRY IN MOTION Some media marry very well. Animation and music is always golden. Another media that works very well is poetry. Perhaps what they have in common is freedom. Poetry, music, animation and a sense of play. Sure, what more do you need? RABBITS & other animals This section features animals. Bears, tigers and rabbits. I really like rabbits. They’re cute, they’re cuddly and there’s soooo many that you can never get enough. Here are some ruminations on rabbits and other animals. MOVING PAINTINGS An animation without a plot, story or sometimes even without characters is called a non-narrative film. Or as we call them round here moving paintings. Projected onto a wall or seen on a screen the non-narrative form is more common than you might think. The video billboard, the pop-up ad, the neon sign, visuals in a club, lyric videos, all eye candy, all non-narrative. Future Vision Festival is a celebration of unusual animation, a feast for the eyes jam packed with films of every shape size and hue with cutting edge animation from Japan, The Netherlands and over fifty other countries worldwide.
