A short film about expectation as a movement already present in the world around us: it listens to small movements of expectation in the landscape: wind through branches, water in motion, messages left in public space, and gestures of waiting.
Filmed in Curaçao, the work proposes that the future may not be something distant, but something already rehearsing itself quietly around us—and that we may not be waiting alone.
About the Artist:
Avantia Damberg is a Curaçao-based visual artist working across sculpture, installation, ceramics, murals and audiovisual media. She graduated in Audiovisual Arts in 2007 from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, where her end-exam work was nominated for the Holland Film Festival. Active as an independent artist since 2008, her practice weaves Caribbean histories, creolisation and memory into material-driven, research-based works. Damberg is a member of the Committee Creative Industries Curaçao, had her foundation SKOR Kòrsou for art in public space and her work is exhibited internationally and held in museum collections both in Curaçao as the Netherlands. www.avantiadamberg.art | @avantiadambergartist
RietveldTV is Gerrit Rietveld Academie’s monthly TV show. It is broadcast every fourth Sunday at 10pm by SALTO1 and afterwards forever online on Vimeo. Every month an alum is invited to use the frame of a 12-minute episode for the development of a new moving image work in connection to the theme.
The current season is titled A DATE WITH THE FUTURE and is broadcast between January and June 2026.
The curatorial team this season are Luca Deutinger (DOGtime Expanded Painting), Taša Grujić (VAV), Herkules Jansson (VAV), Netta Simola (VAV). Coordinated by Rabea Ridlhammer and Vere van Hal.
